Civil Servants and Obligatory Pensions

All citizens are required to save for their pension. This is referred to as the mandatory pension scheme. If you are a civil servant, the part of your salary that comes from your civil servant salary is not subject to the pension obligation. However, all other taxable income you earn is included. This also applies to parts of your salary that are not used to calculate your civil servant pension. For example, overtime pay, evening and night allowances, and bonuses are not always part of the civil servant income. It can also include income from side jobs.

The Tax Agency receives information each year from employers about which part of your salary is the basis for calculating your civil servant pension and which part is not. This information is the basis for the reminders the Tax Agency may send to civil servants about their pension savings obligation.

As a civil servant, you are required to document that pension contributions have been made on your other income. Your employer and pension company will often have the information you need.

You can send the documentation via the citizen portal Sullissivik.gl.
