Application to Fulfill Pension Savings Obligation Abroad
If you have a pension scheme outside of Greenland or Denmark and you plan to stay in Greenland for less than two income years, you can apply to have your foreign pension scheme fulfill your pension savings obligation. The conditions you must meet are:
- Recent Arrival in Greenland: You must have become taxable in Greenland within the last three months.
- Job-Related Move: You have relocated to Greenland for a job.
- Country of Origin: You have moved to Greenland from Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, or an EU member state.
- Short-Term Stay: You expect to stay in Greenland for less than two income years. Note that an income year runs from January 1 to December 31. For example, if you arrive on March 1 and leave on January 15 two years later, you will not qualify for an exemption because your stay spans three income years.
- Pre-Existing Pension Scheme: You have a pension scheme in the country you moved from, and it was established before you relocated to Greenland.
How to apply:
To apply, you must submit the form Application for Permission to Contribute to a Pension Scheme Outside Greenland or Denmark. You should also provide:
- Documentation that you have a job in Greenland (e.g., an employment contract).
- Proof that your pension scheme in the country you moved from was set up before your arrival in Greenland.
Send the application and supporting documentation to pension@nanoq.gl.
