General information
Here you can find information about and complete the application for a one-time permit for the private import of beer, wine and spirits into Greenland.
Conditions for Applying
Conditions for Applying
If you wish to import beer, wine and spirits into Greenland as freight, four basic requirements apply:
As the importer, you must be at least 18 years old.
As the importer, you must be resident in Greenland or be due to take up residence in Greenland in the very near future.
As the importer, you must apply for and be granted a one-time permit. The permit is issued by the Greenland Tax Agency.
When declaring deposit-bearing packaging on the duty declaration form, it is the importer's responsibility to ensure that the packaging barcodes are registered in the Deposit Administration's deposit portal. The following applies:
If the barcode is already registered, the importer does not need to take any further action.
If the product is not registered, it must be registered through the Deposit Portal.
See the guide on importing beverages in deposit-bearing packaging for instructions. The guide is available on aka.gl.
Only when all four requirements have been met may you, as a private individual, import beer, wine and spirits into Greenland as freight.
One-time permit for the private import of beer, wine and spirits into Greenland – what you need to do
Applications must be submitted digitally via Sullissivik.gl, where you must log in using MitID.
In the application, you must state the type of goods, the duty group number and the quantity of each item you wish to import. You must also attach an invoice for the goods you wish to import. The invoice is used to verify the basis for calculating the duty. You must also provide the booking number and the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment.
Before a permit can be issued, the following requirements must be met:
The application must be submitted electronically no later than five working days before the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment to Greenland.
If you have booked shipment on a vessel departing from Aarhus on a Friday, the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment is Tuesday. However, you must check that this is still the applicable deadline. The deadline for delivering the goods will be stated in your shipping booking.
This means that you must submit your application to the Greenland Tax Agency no later than Tuesday of the week before departure, as the application must be submitted five working days before the goods are delivered for shipment.
The duty on the goods and the processing fee must have been paid.
Duties, including any additional duty and processing fee, must be paid no later than when the application is submitted. After completing the application, you will be taken directly to a payment module. Once the payment has been approved, the application is submitted.
The goods must be imported as freight by air, by sea or by post in order for you to obtain a one-time permit.
The one-time permit expires as soon as the goods are released to you.
If you subsequently wish to import beer, wine or spirits into Greenland as freight again, you must submit a new application and obtain a new one-time permit from the Greenland Tax Agency.
Please note that the Greenland Tax Agency may refuse to issue a permit if the number of permits issued to a particular person indicates that the goods are being imported in quantities exceeding what can reasonably be considered for private consumption.

Duty and Processing Fee – How Much Does It Cost to Import Beer, Wine and Spirits Privately?
Duty and Processing Fee – How Much Does It Cost to Import Beer, Wine and Spirits Privately?
The private import of beer, wine and spirits is subject to import duty, an additional duty and a processing fee. The import may also be subject to a packaging duty, a deposit and a deposit fee:
Import duty
The amount depends on the type of goods you wish to import. For alcoholic beverages, the higher the alcohol content, the higher the duty. A packaging duty, deposit and deposit fee may also apply. You can find the current import duty rates on the Greenland Tax Agency's website.
Additional duty
The additional duty is 50% of the calculated import duty. The additional duty is not calculated on the packaging duty, deposit or deposit fee. See the example in the section below.
Processing fee
For each application for a one-time permit for the private import of beer, wine and spirits, the Greenland Tax Agency charges a processing fee of DKK 250.00. This fee does not depend on the quantity of goods imported under the permit. In other words, the fee is the same whether you import 100 bottles of beer, 10 bottles of spirits or 50 bottles of wine.
When submitting your application, you must therefore pay the total of these three amounts, as well as any applicable packaging duty, deposit and deposit fee, to the Greenland Tax Agency. Once payment has been completed, a one-time permit for the import will be issued.
If You Want to Submit Your Application in Person (If You Do Not Have MitID)
This option is not available.
Application Processing
Your application will be processed immediately, after which you will receive your one-time permit.
Cancellation and Amendment of a One-Time Permit Due to a Cancelled or Amended Order
Cancellation and Amendment of a One-Time Permit Due to a Cancelled or Amended Order
If an order is cancelled or amended by the importer or exporter, the one-time permit becomes invalid because it was issued on the basis of the information provided in the application. In such cases, you must follow the procedure described below.
Cancellation of an order
For example, an exporter may inform you that they are unable to deliver an order that you have placed, even though you have already applied and paid for a one-time permit from the Greenland Tax Agency.
In this case, you can cancel your one-time permit through Sullissivik and receive a refund. Please note: The cancellation must be made before the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment.
Amendment of an order
For example, your order may change in terms of the number of bottles or the type of goods. In this case, you will need to amend your one-time permit.
To do so, you must first cancel the original permit as described above. You can then submit a new application containing the updated information about the goods.
Please note that the new application must still be submitted no later than five working days before the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment.
For example, if your order is changed three days before the deadline for delivering the original order for shipment, you must book a new shipment with a delivery deadline that is at least five working days after you submit your new application for a one-time permit.
To cancel your order, send an email to: toldindberetning@nanoq.gl
Deadlines
Deadlines
The application must be submitted electronically no later than five working days before the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment to Greenland.
If you have booked a shipment on a vessel departing from Aarhus on a Friday, the deadline for delivering the goods for shipment is Tuesday. However, you should check that this is still the applicable deadline. The deadline for delivering the goods for shipment will be stated in your shipping booking.
You must therefore submit your application to the Greenland Tax Agency no later than Tuesday of the week before departure, as the application must be submitted five working days before the goods are delivered for shipment.
